SONG FOR TODAY: The Blood Choir - Horror Head

Today's 'Song For Today' is a stand out track from a fine album I have been listening to over the last few days. The Blood Choir are from the city of Bath and comprise of Robin Maddicott, Joe Mountain, Rod Brakes and Sam Selby.

They formed in 2007 and name some of their influences as Neil Young, Earth, Scott Walker and Arbouretum, In 2009 they began recording material for what would become the 'Dartmoor' EP. Whilst never officially released, the EP was widely bootlegged, and won the band a number of influential fans including Garth Hudson (The Band), Jacquire King (Producer: Tom Waits), Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music), and The Handsome Family (whom the band supported in 2011).

In June The Blood Choir released their long-anticipated debut album 'No Windows To The Old World' on IRL/ Top Cat Music. Robin and Joe recorded the album while they were still a duo, and are augmented on a number of tracks by Port Erin's Reuben and Jacob Tyghe. The record was produced by the band and Tim Oliver who has previously worked with Robert Plant, New Order and Tinariwen. Look out for a review of 'No Windows To The Old World' on this site soon...
