Track Of The Day: Savages - 'Shut Up'

So tonight (September 11) sees the announcement of the annual Mercury Prize nominations, and God Is In The TV are discussing possible albums that could possibly make it on to the list HERE. If I was to make a short list of the best British LPs of the last 12 months I'd go for Suede, I Am Kloot, Melt Yourself Down, Primal Scream, Thought Forms, Troumaca, David Bowie, Public Service Broadcasting, The Fall and (not entirely sure if they qualify in terms of release date) Ultrasound, as well as 'Gathered', the wonderful folk album by Nick Burbridge and Tim Cotterell

I'd also opt for 'Silence Yourself', the incredible debut from Savages which unlocks a furious energy, kicking up a vicious storm of excitement that beats the living shit out of run-of-the-mill mainstream guitar acts. It's intense, dark, furious, intriguing and a record that confirms that the time for Savages is now. From it here is the devastating blast of enigmatic rage that they call 'Shut Up'...
